Having only religious agenda not a feature of a political party - Yamin

Having only a religious agenda is not a feature of a political party, Leader of People’s Alliance (PA) and President Gayoom’s brother Abdulla Yamin has said. Yamin made the statement in an exclusive interview given to Television Maldives.

Criticizing Adhaalath Party, the party of religious scholars, Yamin said promoting only a religious front cannot be taken as a political activity and does not make the party a political party. He said a party’s ideology is very important.

Yamin’s interview to TVM was shown at Maumoon 2008 campaign media office to indicate to media that DRP supporters will further increase their campaign to win the forthcoming runoff election. Media Manager of Maumoon 2008 campaign said in addition to PA, People’s Party, Maldives Social Democratic Party (MSDP) will join Gayoom’s campaign. He hinted other leading politicians will soon join DRP but declined to reveal any names.
