Work is in progress to employ the necessary staff to the court, but with a good number of experienced staff released from various offices of judiciary, the work of the Supreme Court is progressing well.
The Supreme Court is also working on the appeal and other cases entrusted to the Court. The Supreme Court is also in the process of establishing website through which information regarding the cases dealt with by the Court will be made available conveniently. It is leant all trials of the Supreme Court will be open to the public.
In addition to the Chief Justice, four more judges have been appointed and taken oath on Thursday. These five judges were proposed by President Gayoom on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission and approved by the People’s Majlis with two third majority. The other four judges of the Supreme Court are Ahmed Faiz Hssain, Abdulla Areef, Mujthaz Fahmy and Yoosuf Hussain. There was a heated debate in the Majlis on Thursday during the consideration of the nomination of the five judges without sufficient information from the Judicial Service Commission. Members expressed deep concern for having to decide such an important matter without proper scrutiny and information.

Under the new constitution all th powers are separated and the supreme court formed. But it,s the same old judges may be corrupt may be not.But one thing is sure that they cannot just get away from their responsibilities now.Because the Maldives of tomorrow will be a democratic country where people can breath freely. If you ask a common person in Maldives about justice then they says nothing happen in these courts. No justice is delivered.Recently a friend of mine filed a case of tenancy dispute in the ‘Madhanee Court’ against the Apollo Ahamed Arif. The respected jude passed the order in favour of the victim and and asked Ahmed Arif to pay the pending rent of more than one year to the landlords. Now he takes the case to high court and it is pending there for more than one year. The family has gone several times to the high court to get the justice. But still no date was fixed for the hearing or finishing of the case. This is a simple case of tenancy dispute where Apollo holdings Ahmed Arif refusing to pay more than one years pending rent to the landlords. The landlords are not getting their money.High court is taking more than a year to hold a hearing related to a ‘Simple case’ like case. Here is an example of the powerful using their influence to delay justice. This is the type of justice people of Maldives are getting.so we say justice delayed is justice denied. What is the use of these courts if they cannot give justice to its people. Is it only to protect the rich and powerful!
They worked in the lower courts and again they are in the Supreme court. The sam cases they handled will come to them so how can those case get justice.nothing can be done in the time period of the present regime. We have to vot for change if we want justice. Some of the democratic thinking mps in the parliament refused to elect these judges in the supreme court.Thay were in favour of bringing some foreign judges to work in the supreme court. But that idea also failed. So I wonder how cases going to supreme court get justice when the judeges are the same.
There is no justice in Maldives. This country is ruled by an iron hand last 30 years.Nothing developed here.Only corruption grew.
